It was a Day of Sorrow, Sadness, Anticipation, and Joy

It was a day of sadness, sorrow, anticipation, and joy. It began with my family getting ready early in the morning. It was a cold crisp day that only Idaho in January could bring; the wind shield on the car was frosted over with ice. My uncle had to turn on the car and have it warm up so we could drive, as he had no scraper to scrap the ice off. We travelled to the church reminiscing about Aunt Linda; the tone of the morning was definitely one of retrospection. We arrived at the church about an hour before…

Where to begin

So this past week has been interesting to say the least. It started off with a “friend” of mine lying to me in a big sort of way but the week got better. I started school on Tuesday and I was pleasantly surprised by my teachers. In contrast to my teachers last semester this semester is going to be very nice. All of my teachers speak English and they all have reasonable grading policies. Calculus is going to prove to be as difficult as I was anticipating but the rest of my classes are going to be on par with…

Last days of Freedom

So there isn’t much new since I wrote last but I figured I would write something before the semester starts. I went to my internship yesterday and it was generally the same old stuff: cough, cold, diarrhea, etc. I am finding it rather frustrating in the Emergency Department not speaking Spanish. I am against the fact that I should accommodate people that aren’t willing to learn English; however I am finding that my personal bias has no room in Medicine. It is imperative that I learn Spanish so I can help patients in the most efficient way possible. This adds…

Talk about a close one…

So Friday I had another shift at the Emergency department. This one I would have to say was fairly interesting. I was doing my usual “rounds” checking on patients, changing bed, etc. and the charge nurse (which interestingly enough I didn’t know she was the charge nurse) asked me to help out in Triage again. It was the usual symptoms fever, cough, cold, etc. We even had a patient come in that had an abscess tooth (I thought to myself wouldn’t a dentist be better for this). Well the interesting patient was a man that was “suicidal” he told the…

New Year

So here we are at the beginning of another year, new beginnings and most importantly new hope. There is something exciting about a New Year. It was a beautiful day today, I started the day by talking with a friend and then I fulfilled one of my goals for the day by starting to exercise. It was a good feeling and I look forward to doing it again tomorrow. So anyway, the year is going to be a good one. For once I am going to take the year and make it my own. This is my year! It is…
