I hope Barrack Obama does what he intends to do. You see although I did not vote for President Elect Obama I hope that he is able to do what he has spoken so much about. Seeing as how he is the first African American President he has a lot that he will have to live up to. This could end very well for him and the entire African American race or it could end very badly for him. I am not racist in the least, I was not taught that growing up, but there are people out there that will blame the entire race if he fails to live up to his promises. I do not want to see that happen, as a people they have been discriminated against for so very long. It would be terrible for something awful to happen. If it did it would be difficult for future African Americans to run for public office, not because they would be any less qualified or competent but because people would look at them differently based on President Elect Obama’s failure. I hope he succeeds, I hope he does all that he intends to do and that he will take this country out of the current crisis that it is in. It is now up to us to wait and see and pray that he will uphold the promises he has and will make.
On that same note I am happy that he did get elected, I am not being hypocritical here, and I am still very much a Republican. I know that the Republican Party lost and in all honesty based on how the McCain/Palin ticket was run, the current state of the economy, and President Bush’s very unpopular presidency they really didn’t have a chance at all. There were too many barriers for the Republican Party to overcome. But I digress, I am happy that Barrack Obama was elected because now there is a new type of role-model for African Americans to look up to. I do not mean this in a condescending way at all. I am simply saying that it is refreshing to see something other than a rap star or sport star for the African American population to look to for success. I am proud that this country has come so far that they have elected an African American President. I am very happy to live in a time where this is possible. I hope that despite the differences of opinion that we as a country can come together and support our new President and pray that he does the very best for our nation as a whole.
