Today I am thirty-two years old, it is kind of weird because honestly I don’t feel any different than when I was in my twenty’s. Sure my body isn’t what it used to be but that’s just the way things go. Here are just a few things I’ve learned over the years.
Today my wife and I were watching Christmas movies; it was a nice way to spend Sunday. It started with an 80′s classic “Smokey Mountain Christmas” with Dolly Parton and Lee Majors. I liked this movie because although the focus wasn’t on the Savior it was on the family and how it didn’t matter who your family was but rather that you were a part of a family and how you treated your family. The next movie was “What I did for love” and it was about a Los Angeles attorney that had to gain the respect of his girlfriend’s…
Today started my Thanksgiving Break; it will be nice to have some time off from school. Although, honestly I will still be working on school work, calculus is certainly going to get some extra time this week. I want to start studying for the final because if I have any chance whatsoever of passing I have to start now. This week also holds something special for me as I will be turning 32 on Tuesday, more about that in a different blog post. As previously posted in All Hallows Eve, my wife is all about the holidays. I am not…
For my wedding my wife and I received a plaque with “Everyday is a gift” inscribed on it. It now hangs on one of our walls as a constant reminder of how precious the present is, and how important it is to not take the day for granted. I think we often get caught up in the day to day grind of life and forget how important it is to treasure what we have in our life. Perhaps that is what the holiday season is all about, taking time to enjoy the moments that can bring us all together. In…
I downloaded the Microsoft Office 2010 beta after looking at the technical preview. I was hoping that it was going to be better but so far the same bugs that I noticed in the technical preview are still in the beta. For instance when I try to send and receive it locks up and won’t do anything. Second when I close it down, it doesn’t close completely and I have use the task manager to end the process. There are of course many features that I still like such as the ribbon in all the applications. I think that the…
I think I saw this phrase on a bumper sticker but I think it remains true. When Jesus saw his disciples had departed without him he departed the shore and walked toward them. Here is the account: “And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. But the ship was now in the midst of the…
I was watching Glee this evening and had a few thoughts, first of all I thought it was great when Finn was singing to “his” unborn child, I know that someday when I am about to be a father I will probably do the same. Second, I wanted to comment on how Quinn’s parents reacted to her being pregnant. As I have mentioned previously I am not a parent so I do not know exactly how I will react when something like this will happen. Although I do know that I couldn’t in good conscience tell my child to get…
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be told that you would be giving birth to the Savior of the world? I wonder what went through Mary’s mind when the realization of her role in the world was made known. What about Joseph? What would he think of being Jesus’ earthly father? I could not fathom the immense feeling of inadequacies that would go through his mind. First and foremost would be the question, who am I to be the father of the Savior of the world, I am just a carpenter. What could he possibly learn…
While on my mission I had a very unique opportunity to meet a woman who although I don’t remember her name taught me a very valuable lesson. I had been serving for a little over a year when my companion and I received a phone call. A woman had been admitted for alcoholism to a rehabilitation facility in the city where I served. While going through rehab she requested that we could come and give her a priesthood blessing. We of course obliged. We went right over to the facility and promptly gave her a blessing. Now for those of…
Have you ever woke up from a dream completely befuddled? A dream that was so confusing you had to take a few minutes to remember what reality was? Most of the time I don’t remember the specific details of my dreams how about you? I bring up dreams because I think it is important to dream. I’m not talking about the dreams we have at night, I know that most of the time I don’t dream or at least I don’t know that I am dreaming but in life, well those are the dreams that matter the most. I think…
Of course there are many other ways to improve our relationship with the Savior; however these are in my opinion the most important.
1. Daily Prayer
Just like any good relationship it takes communication to ensure a strong long lasting and enduring. Prayer should be meaningful and not trite. We should avoid our everyday language and properly address Him. We should use the proper terms for God such as Thee and Thou.
2. Daily Scripture Study
It has been said that when we want to communicate with God we should pray and when God wants to communicate to…
Today we got our test back for calculus, it wasn’t pretty. But I am not alone the class average was only 1 point above mine. I of course would like to have scored above the average but I didn’t. What does that say about a professor when an entire class fails an exam? It can’t be that an entire class is wrong or rather inadequate. Despite my best efforts I am not going to pass this class unless of course the professor curves the class at the end. It is comforting knowing that there are others that are in the…
