If you could know the future, would you? What about a glimpse? A show called Flash Forward presents just this premise. The entire world blacked out at the exact same time and saw six months in the future. They only saw a few minutes of what their future was and thus it was incomplete. They didn’t know how or why they got there, this certainly leads to a glimpse that doesn’t allow them to see the decisions that lead up to their future. This brings me to my point. No matter what decisions we make, there is no way that we can know the far reaching consequences of our actions. We might have a slight idea but in the big scheme of things it is usually more than a single decision that determines how we got where we are, sometimes I look back on my life and try to figure out how I got where I am and the honest answer is I haven’t a clue. I could certainly hypothesize but I couldn’t draw a line from point A to point B.
I guess that is why it is so important to make sure the decisions that we make are something that we can live the rest of our lives with, because our decisions truly do define who we will become. If you will ask most successful people how they became successful the ones you can know are telling the truth are the ones who don’t paint the get rich quick schemes as a means of success. The ones who are telling the truth will tell you a several things, first of all they did something each day to obtain their goal, second they persisted in their endeavors regardless of how difficult it became, and third they were willing to sacrifice to obtain what they wanted.
Now everyone will have their own definition of what is success. One person’s success story cannot be compared another’s, the only fair comparison can be within yourself. A couple of questions you can ask yourself to see where you are at are, am I closer today to my goal than I was yesterday? What did I do today to work toward my goal? What am I willing to sacrifice to obtain my dream? These are just a couple of questions you can ask to help you see where you stand. Nothing is impossible with a lot of hard work and quite a bit of dedication. Often time’s people use media as a source for comparison. I urge you to refrain from using anyone else as a measuring stick. The only true and appropriate measuring stick is you.
If you want your Flash Forward to come true, it is up to you to make it happen. No one can do it for you and more importantly no one should do it for you. The victory of accomplishing your goals would be cheap indeed if someone were to give you your dream.
