Jesus Christ, not the Savior of the World?

According to Islam, Jesus Christ was merely a prophet. He did miracles and prophesied but the basis upon which Christianity is founded they dispute. What it really boils down to is, did Jesus Christ atone for the sins of the world and was he crucified and resurrected? Islam would have you believe that it didn’t happen and that the Koran was sent to Mohammed by the angel Gabriel to correct Christianity. So the question I have is this, which one is correct? Who is right? I mean after all you have two different sacred texts in direct contradiction with each other. Both of which declare themselves to be of divine authority. Supposedly these texts have been given directly from the mouth of God. Can it be that God would say something completely different to different people? More importantly the question begs to be asked, was the atonement not performed? Are we still waiting on a Messiah? Were the apostles who witness the life of Jesus Christ mistaken in some way?

I pose these questions because I want to see what other people think. I know what I believe; I know what is in my heart. Please don’t think for a minute that I doubt what I know to be true. But all of the questions can be summed up in a nutshell, who is telling the truth? How can we know for sure which religion is right, when each one professes to be correct. My own faith professes that it is the only true church. Other churches have truth in them but The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints boldly proclaims that it is the only completely true church on the face of the whole earth. Yet so does most everyone else.

In addition to the Bible, my church has The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ as a second witness of Jesus. We believe that this text was given by God to prophets prior to even Mohammed receiving the Koran and that Joseph Smith received these ancient writings from the angel Moroni and by the power of God translated it to English. Not only do we believe the Bible but we also believe The Book of Mormon. We have two witnesses of Christ and the Koran if I understand it correctly would contradict The Book of Mormon as well. The facts indeed cannot be relied on to make a sound judgment or decision.

I would submit to you that God has not left us alone; he has not left us to own devices to understand an amazingly complex situation. We do not have to rely on logic or thinking to understand what can only be understood with our hearts. Most importantly we do not have to take a man’s word for it. Certainly it is important to reason it out in minds to make a decision for ourselves. God did not give us our minds to simply not use but I think it is important that besides using the reason that he gave us that we also use the Spirit that he sent as well. In John he teaches us about the comforter, “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14:26) God did not leave us alone to figure out this life ourselves; he gave us a gift, a gift that if used correctly can teach us ALL things. We can rely upon a member of the Godhead to teach each and every one of us. We can receive the divine guidance to make the decisions in our lives that will lead us in the path that God would have us choose.
