A little Christmas Miracle

I wanted to share a little Christmas miracle that happened to me and my wife. It was the usual sort of day before Christmas. We still had no idea what to get my brother in-law or my father in-law. I had some ideas but for the most part they are incredibly hard to shop for, not because I didn’t want to get them gifts but because my father in-law has everything he wants and my brother in-law isn’t very obvious in what he wants. I knew that my father in-law would be the hardest and that is why I left…

It seems that family might be more important than we thought

Today my wife and I were watching Christmas movies; it was a nice way to spend Sunday. It started with an 80′s classic “Smokey Mountain Christmas” with Dolly Parton and Lee Majors. I liked this movie because although the focus wasn’t on the Savior it was on the family and how it didn’t matter who your family was but rather that you were a part of a family and how you treated your family. The next movie was “What I did for love” and it was about a Los Angeles attorney that had to gain the respect of his girlfriend’s…

Martha and Mary

In the New Testament we learn about Mary and Martha, “Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? Bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and…

Memory Walk 2009

Although this blog is mostly about religion and how it influences our lives I also wanted to take this time to talk about Alzheimer’s disease. Today my wife and I had the opportunity to walk in a 5K to help fight Alzheimer’s. My grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s about two years ago. It robbed him of his mind and towards the end he didn’t even remember his own children. I am well aware of what it can do as I use to work in a hospital and I had to help several Alzheimer’s patients as well as their family. It…

You don’t have to kick someone in the head to get their attention

I found myself saying the above phrase to my nephew tonight as he was trying to get his sister to move away from in front of his view of the movie. I found this an opportunity to teach him a valuable lesson. I proceeded to get my niece’s attention and told her that her brother had something to ask her. He then proceeded to ask her to move out of his view. She view quickly moved out of his way and went on watching the movie. It was a very simple thing and yet it was easier for him to…

Say what you need to say

I am angry right now and I have been for quite some time, my parents have decided that a computer is more important than their son’s wedding, because that is what is standing between them coming to my wedding and them not. For some reason they don’t see anything wrong with it and when I bring it to their attention that they are doing this, they blow it off. There is nothing I can do to get them to care about me I have come to acknowledge that some things aren’t meant to be. I know that there…

Where to now?

Yesterday afternoon I called my mother to talk to her about something I can’t remember at the moment, when I did she indicated that her and my father would like to talk to me. Based on our conversations most of the time I wasn’t exactly excited about talking to them. Then last night while I was out with some friends my father called and left me a voicemail also wishing to speak to me. After I got home my mother proceeded to tell me that they (my mother and my father) have decided to move to Idaho and stay on…

Death and Taxes…maybe just death then

They say there are only two things that sure in life and that are: death and taxes. Honestly after preparing tax returns two years ago I truly believe that death is the only thing that is absolute. Yesterday at 6:15 am my Grandfather Loren Clifford Bowden passed from this life into the next. He was 81 years old. This blog is dedicated to his memory. This was not a surprise as he had been in failing health for a time already. He either suffered from or enjoyed Alzheimer’s for quite a while, I say enjoyed because I doubt he really…
