As the final topic in The First Principles and Ordinances of the Gospel, The Gift of the Holy Ghost by the laying on of hands. This perhaps is one of the more delicate topics and should be referred to with the utmost of reverence. The Gift of the Holy means the potential for constant companionship from one of the Godhead. It is only given to those that have fulfilled all of the other principles and ordinances. Through this we can be sanctified by ”bapti[sm] …with the Holy Ghost,

Ten Virgins

Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us

The first ordinance of the gospel is baptism by immersion for the remission of sins. There is quite a bit of speculation about the logistics and necessity of baptism. We learn from Peter, who said, “…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” (Acts 2:38)  So we see that baptism is required for the remission…

Raising the Title of Liberty

One of my favorite parts of The Book of Mormon is when Captain Moroni raises the Title of Liberty, “And it came to pass that he rent his coat; and he took a piece thereof, and wrote upon it—In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children—and he fastened it upon the end of a pole. And he fastened on his head-plate, and his breastplate, and his shields, and girded on his armor about his loins; and he took the pole, which had on the end thereof his rent coat, (and he

Prophets

I was reading a blog that discussed the “differences” between mainstream Christianity and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The controversy lies in the fact that most of Christianity, denies that prophets can exist. They believe that The Bible is the absolute and final word of God. It is the cannon and is closed. Yet, it is apparent that although they read The Bible they do not believe everything in the bible. For instance in Amos it clearly states, “Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.” (Amos

There are many misconceptions about faith, although I am by no means the authority on faith I do have a little experience with it. In the world today there seems to be a pervasive attitude that it is okay to not have faith. I’d like to take a closer look at what faith really is: it is simply a belief. It doesn’t have to be big or small, it just has to be. Some people believe they have lost their faith, I…

Gratitude

So when a member of the Bishopric called me and asked to speak on gratitude, I responded enthusiastically. I think he was slightly surprised at my willingness to speak. The truth of it is, as most people can tell by my blog that I love to speak. I don’t know if it is some masochistic part of me that loves the torture of being in front of an audience but I truly enjoy public speaking. I found acting in school amazingly fulfilling. That isn’t to say that I am good at it but I do enjoy it. He asked me…

If thou endure it well

Today I feel impressed to speak in reference to a topic that I feel needs to be addressed. Lately I have had a lot of trials, tribulations and frustrations. Now I am not writing for myself on this one, I am writing for all of you. I have to begin by telling you a little bit more about myself (not to boast of myself but so you can know that I speak from experience not from idealization). I was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to good parents who love me very much. I can honestly say they did the…
