Have you ever know people who no matter how good life is, they find the cloud that rains on their proverbial parade?  Even in the brightest of sunlight, they find the shadow that darkens their day.

Let’s face it life can be difficult sometimes and in some instances it can be difficult for a while.  In other instances, life can be amazing and the sun shines every day.  I believe that no matter how good or bad life may be you can choose to be happy.  Sure when life is good it is easy to be happy and when life is hard we tend to struggle to find the joy.  I found in my life that there are several ways you can find the joy even when there doesn’t seem to be any.

First, focus on the things that are going right.  I’ve found when there seems to be a perpetual cloud above me and I can’t seem to catch a break that there are at least some things that I can appreciate and find happiness in.  No matter what, don’t lose sight of the good.  Many people focus so much on the negative that they forget that there is some positive in their life.  If you look for good, you will find it.

Second, find joy in simple things.  You may be poor or just broke up with your girlfriend or whatever may be your current situation, but you can find joy in the sun shining or the rain drops on your face.  No matter the time or season there is always something to be grateful, for and if you find value in the simple things then you will never be lacking in joy.

Third, remember that, “This too shall pass”, it’s a little cliché but it is true.  Many years ago I went through one of the worst periods in my life.  To say it was bad was an understatement, when it seemed like it would consume me completely.  It was not until I started to focus on finding the joy and time passed that I was able to get through it.

We live in a very difficult time now, full of strife and uncertainty.  If we continually focus on the bad then that is all we will see.  However, if we look for the joy we will find it.  However you live your life, keep in mind your happiness is only dependent on your attitude.  Life is going to be difficult, that is for sure but you do not have to be miserable in the process.
